Background

I was born and raised in Washington Heights, New York, where my mother Karen Leroy, was a well known New York professor of English who taught at Columbia University, Hostos Community College, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, as well as Mercy College. My father was a building superintendent, carpenter, plumber, explorer, and nature lover. I attended one of the historic hilltop schools of New York City, the Ethical Culture Fieldston School of Riverdale, from kindergarten through 12th grade and graduated in 2001. This unique educational experience would inevitably spark my love for learning and teaching on so many levels.
I then moved on to attend my mother’s own former all women’s college, one of the well known five colleges of Massachusetts, Mount Holyoke College, and graduated in 2007 with a major in Psychology, and a dual minor in African-American Studies and Studio Art. I began teaching in New York City with School Professionals as a substitute teacher back in 2009 and have taught ever since.
Today, after about ten years of teaching in New York and Florida, I have an extremely bright and loving 12-year-old daughter named Elana Triplett who attends Summit Questa Montessori School in Davie, where I previously taught as a PreK Teacher, Art Teacher, Coaching Assistant, and Floater Teacher for 3 years. I was also her four-year-old teacher during daycare. My mother’s love for teaching, my father’s love of nature, and educating my own daughter in the past in school, has inspired me to want to teach the next generation to love and respect the world they’re in, as well as the people they share the world with. After about 3 years of substitute teaching regularly at Our Savior Lutheran School, I feel blessed now to be a full-time part of such a wonderful uplifting community I’ve gotten to know so well, and so thrilled to be a permanent assistant teacher to the second grade class.
